Photograph of Bertha and E. Louise Krauss at 309 N. Liberty Street
A photograph of Mrs. Bertha and her daughter, E. Louise, Krauss on the porch at 309 N. Liberty Street in Marshall, Michigan. Information about the photograph provided by Rose Breitenwischer: “George Krauss (1849-1903) and his wife, Elizabeth Caroline (nee Kraus,1857-1921) lived at 309 N. Liberty Street. He was a native of Gültstein, Württemberg. In Marshall, he owned and operated the Geo. Krauss Saloon, 114 E. State Street. The couple raised two children, John G. and Caroline S.E. Both children married and had families but lost their spouses early. So, both moved, with their families, back to this house and their now widowed mother. In 1928, Caroline sold the home, then belonging to her and the estate of her late brother, to Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Dobbertein. In the summer scene, the two people on the porch are Bertha (Mrs. John G.) Krauss and daughter, E. Louise.”
