Officers Bond Book for Marengo Township [1870-1900]

Township Officers, such as the Commissioner of Highways, Constable, Day Warden, Drain Commissioner, School Inspector, Township Clerk, and Treasurer, were required to post a bond as a guarantee that they would perform their duties. Those who acted as sureties were also recorded. Inserted in the front cover of the bound volume were the following loose papers: - Letter to L. Townsend from C. A. Sofer about the purchasing of land and an update on the family, dated March 4, 1871. - [verso] Notice to physicians from Sherriff Wm. C. Richfield - Application for Inspection of Fish Shute in the dam across the Kalamazoo River at Marengo, dated April 3, 1905, with signatures of freeholders. - Postal card to James K. Martin from Riley Vroman concerning a dog tax, stamped May 27 and 28, 1905.
